The Bone Research Program pursues research in Basic Bone Biology, Applied Bone Metabolism and Clinical Research into Metabolic Bone Disease. Since 2002, we have grown from just two happy campers to currently 15 team members, including several senior and junior scientists, post-docs, research officers, PhD, MD and honours students. Over the past few years, we have welcomed a number of fantastic visiting fellows and summer-students, who have enriched our program, widened our horizons and enabled us to build research partnerships throughout the world. We are currently working at full steam on a number of exciting and competitive research projects. Full details of Bone Research Program's Current Studies can be seen by following this link.

The enthusiastic members of the research team (shown below at one of our regular outings) were successful in attracting research funds both from within Australia and overseas. In 2002, the Bone Research Program at the ARI was awarded one of the initial three BioFirst Awards presented by the Government of NSW. Since then, we have attracted several further NHMRC project grants (see list of grants under Professor Seibel's profile). Our ongoing research is supported through funding from within Australia and from overseas. With our collaborators, we have current and future funding to a total value of over $7,000,000, including six current NHMRC project grants.

Our group is well represented at national and international scientific meetings, reflecting the high standard and international recognition of our research. The members of the team are regularly invited to present their work. This year, our group has received the unique "Best Abstract" or "Outstanding Abstract" Awards of the ANZBMS for the fourth consecutive time

Our future plan is to further develop a comprehensive research program that makes use of the many opportunities provided by multidisciplinary institutions such as the ANZAC Research Institute itself, several first-class Universities and research institutes within Sydney, and a country and culture that values science and research. We are actively intensifying our scientific collaborations with basic and clinical research groups both in Australia and overseas, always aiming to extend our research efforts to exciting and new areas in bone biology.

The Bone Research Program offers great opportunities for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and established researchers to undertake basic or clinical research in the bone field. We especially welcome students and young researchers from Australia and overseas who wish to receive good training, while at the same time make significant contributions to science. The senior scientific staff listed below are willing to support applications to the University of Sydney for Post-doctoral Fellowships and for Post-graduate Scholarships such as University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS), Endeavour Australia Program, and Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (Endeavour IPRS)
