Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as centres of excellence. Major services provided include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part.

Our history goes back to the 19th century when the hospital site was part of an estate known locally as "Yaralla". After the outbreak of the Second World War, the Commonwealth Government purchased part of this estate and built the 113th Australian General Hospital, an army hospital which cared for many thousands of our sick and wounded defence personnel. The first staff began treating patients here in 1941.

Late in 1948 responsibility for the management of the hospital was transferred from the Australian Military Forces to the Repatriation Commission. Its role was to provide health services to entitled veterans and war widows. In 1963 Concord became a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney which has been a significant factor in raising our medical standards and fulfilling our role as a major teaching and principal referral hospital.

Since then, the hospital has gone from strength to strength with the opening of many important units and facilities. It's a story we're proud of and one that will have many more chapters. Situated close to the City on the Parramatta River, Concord Hospital enjoys expansive views extending to the Sydney Harbour Bridge on one side, and the beautiful Blue Mountains on the other, a recent upmarket development has transformed the Hospital to meet the challenges of the future.

We have a long established reputation of excellence in the provision of healthcare services with consecutive accreditation by the Australian Council on Health Care Standards since 1979, which recognizes quality in health care. Concord is the first teaching hospital to receive back to back 5 year Accreditation Awards, as well as three consecutive 3 year Accreditation Awards from the Post Graduate Medical Council of NSW, for the exemplary training of postgraduate doctors.

Whilst none of us look forward to spending time in hospital, if you find you need to be hospitalized at some point, or are considering employment in the NSW health system, you can’t go past Concord for high quality care and attention.
