Fairfield City Council and Health Promotion partnership
To help achieve better health for the residents of Fairfield and improve collaboration between SSWAHS and Fairfield City Council, Fairfield Hospital, Community Health Services SSWAHS entered into a 12-month Health Partnership in 2006. The partners were also keen to develop a model that could be replicated by other local councils and health services within the area health service.
What we are doing The key components of the Health Partnership are to:
Develop, implement and evaluate a model for partnership between health services and local government
Develop and implement two main projects focusing on physical activity and tobacco control.
We have rolled out a range of strategies to address these two health issues in Fairfield.
Physical activity:
Promoting National Ride to Work Day
Running cycling skills training courses for local residents
Providing training and educational resources about physical activity for children for Out of School Hours Care services.
Tobacco control:
Providing consultation in the development and implementation of Council’s Smoke-free Playgrounds and Sportsgrounds Policy
Running World No Tobacco Day quit seminars for council staff and subsidising nicotine replacement therapy for smokers who want to quit.
Articles promoting physical activity and giving quit smoking tips are published monthly in local newspapers and the Fairfield City Council newsletter as well as being posted on Council’s website.
Evaluation The current Health Partnership model and Service Level Agreement will be evaluated in 2010.
Partners and funding Our partners are Fairfield City Council and Community Health Services SSWAHS.
The project is jointly funded by the Health Promotion Service, Community Health Services SSWAHS and Fairfield City Council.
