Professor Maree Johnson
Director

Professor Johnson, is a registered nurse with a degree and Masters degree in applied science in nursing and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Population Health.

Professor Maree Johnson was the foundation Chair of Clinical Nursing at the Centre for Applied Nursing Research in 1995. On her return to CANR in 2008, Professor Johnson continues to work in the areas of nursing and midwifery practice and patient safety.

Professor Johnson has received awards for her research and excellence awards in research training of PhD and Masters students. As an experienced quantitative and qualitative nurse researcher, Professor Johnson brings a wealth of experience to supporting clinicians, educators and managers in their research endeavours.

 
 
 

Dr Ajesh George
Senior Research Fellow
BDS, MPH, PhD 
 
Dr. Ajesh George is a Senior Research Fellow at the Sydney South West Centre for Applied Nursing Research. He is a dentist with experience in public health both internationally and in Australia.
 
Dr George is an expert in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and has extensive experience working with nurses/midwives, mothers and children. He has a number of refereed publications and has presented at both international and national conferences.
 
Dr George’s main research interest is on perinatal oral health and the role of non dental professionals.
 
 
 
 

Dr Diana Jefferies
Nurse Researcher
RN, BA(Hons), PhD
 
Dr Diana Jefferies is a Nurse Researcher at the Centre of Applied Nursing Research, SSWAHS. Her major research interest is the development of better oral and written communication systems in Nursing.
 
Dr Jefferies also works with clinicians throughout SSWAHS to develop area wide evidenced based policies. She graduated from her PhD in May, 2009 from the University of Sydney. 
 
 
 
 

Danielle Tran
Research Officer
 
Danielle Tran joined the research team at CANR in Oct 2004. Previously, she worked with local general practitioners and undertook program evaluation and research projects at the former Liverpool Division of General Practice.
 
Prior to 2001, she was a medical practitioner in Vietnam. Currently, Danielle is also a PhD student at the University of Western Sydney, investigating the health of Vietnam-born Australians in relation to diabetes.
 
 
 
 

Rachel Langdon
Research Assistant

Rachel has been a Research Assistant with CANR since 1997, providing support to both CANR Staff and clinicians of SSWAHS who are undertaking research projects in conjunction with CANR, relating to all phases of the research process, from development of research proposals and projects through to the preparation of papers for publication, including questionnaire development, research methodology and statistical analysis. 
 
 
Rachel's research interests are in the areas of maternal and child health, bilingual health communication, patient safety, and health outcomes for older people. She is also involved in systematic reviews and the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence based guidelines.
 
 
 
 

Janine Baker
Administrative Officer
 
Janine has returned to University of Western Sydney after living & working abroad for two years.  She joined CANR in early 2010 and brings with her vast administrative experience of Research Centres & Faculties /Colleges of Tertiary Education.  Janine has worked with University of Western Sydney for over 10 years.
